It was my first show of 2012, and what a way to set the bar high.
The FRAY brought their amazing piano rock and vocal ability to the small but beautiful Opera House last night in Toronto, and words can not put to justice how amazing this band seriously is. There isn't many bands who I connect with on such a level that I am brought to tears, but the Fray did just that last night. As a frequent concert attendee I don't remember the last time that one band gave me goosebumps from the second they took the stage.
With no opening act and a small venue, the audience was a wide range of old and young, male and female, The Fray took the stage just after 9pm. The last time these guys were in Toronto, they sold out the Molson Ampitheatre, so it was pretty awesome to see them in the 800 person Opera House.
The show was a solid mix of both old and new tunes, including all the hits such as " How to Save a Life" and my personal favourite song "Look After You". Touring now in support of their new album- which comes out in Febuary, it was great to hear from new songs. The new single (which is already on my ipod) is called " Heatbeat". During the song, lead singer Isaac Slade invited the crowd to put up their cameras and phones, record the song, and upload it to youtube. The band is goin to create a mashup video of it for their fans !
There were many highlights in the 90 minute set, including throwing in a snippet of the Spice Girls in the middle of their song "Never Say Never". Another highlight included a true unplugged tune, with Slade, standing front and centre, calling for quiet, and unplugging his mic and guitar and belting out an amazing version of "Happiness"
Ending the 16 song set with "Over my Head (Cable Car)", The Fray once again proved their amazing stage presence and talent.
