I always try to give musicians a chance before I come up with my opinion, listen to their music, see them live , then decide if I am going to like them or not, but when it came to the musical stylings of Jesse Giddings, I will admit, I was skeptical from the start.
Jesse is best known for his time at much music as a VJ, before announcing he was leaving Much this past summer to focus on his music career. I knew he was into music and I thought that he used to have a band (I may be mistaken) but I had NO idea what kinda sound he would have or what his singing voice sounded like before I saw him open for Marianas Trench and Down With Webster last month in Hamilton during a stop on the Face the Music Tour.
What I heard, was not only unexpected, but in my opinion, pretty bad. Jesse for some unknown reason, has decided to go in a very pop direction with his music, which honeslty, does not suit him at all. The whole set I felt was very fake and I was left wondering "WTF". I don;t know why but for some reason Jesse decided to take a Celine Dion song.. and turn it into a catchy pop tune.. I guess it was a good thing that most of the girls in the crowd were way to busy screaming at his good looks to pay attention to the train wreck of music that was occurring on the stage.
My advice to the good looking, yet not so much a pop star Jesse Giddings... stick to the interviewing and leave the singing to the actual rockstars.
For those of you curious of what I have been talking about.. Check out a video and decide for yourself.
