There isn't many bands I love as much as I love GREEN DAY. I first got to see them over 10 years ago, and my love for these punks has grown more then you can even imagine. Last time they played in Toronto I was one of the lucky fans who made it up on stage with the band for a memory that will last a life time. The tickets for this show, in support for the THREE albums the band released last year, Uno!, Dos! and Tre! were purchased way back in September for a show that was supposed to happen in January. Due to lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong going into rehab, the show was pushed back a few months, which lead to more anticipation. I secured my spot right up in the front and waited for the the band to take the stage ! I am a HUGE fan of Green Days older music, as well as American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown, and although I own all 3 of the albums released last year, I had not yet learned all the songs, so I was interested to see what songs would be played during this show. There was no opening act for this tour, but you knew the show was going to start when the famous "drunk bunny" came out onto the stage to get the crowd onto their feet. Starting out with a new song, 99 Revolutions, Green Day managed to mix the new songs, with all the old favorites the fans come to the shows to hear. The only set list disappointment was not hearing "Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)", although ending the solid 3 hour set by playing " Jesus of Suburbia" made up for it !!! Green Day knows how to put on a show and they consistently put on a solid performance. Lead Singer Billie Joe seems back to his old healthy self, pre- vegas meltdown. He had a smile on his face the whole show and you can tell that he was happy to be back on the stage. Green Day is a band that doesn't need a gimmick to put on a good show. They have their stage, basic black, with tons of lights, and they have themselves and thats all they need. I left that show, sad it was over, but also looking forward to seeing these punk boys play again. They have proved their talent and their staying power in an industry that is currently more about pretty faces then about the music, and that is what makes them so amazing. They have also recently released TWO documentaries "Quatro!" and "Broadway Idiot", so if you can, check those out !!! Till next time... check out some photos of their performance.
That moment when you hear a song, or see that band you love, and in that moment, nothing else matters
