Last week, at this time, I was sitting infront of my TV, as I do every year, watching the Juno Awards.
This year the Junos were held in St. Johns, Newfoundland. Because of the Fog, we are lucky the show even happened this year.
The show was without a host.. and really.. the Junos are loosing their touch. Out of like 50 awards, only 5 were given out during the live show, and Michael Buble won 3 of those and Drake won the other two. The show to me, seemed like it focused more on trying to get the attention of the American Audience, rather then focus on Canada and all the talent that we have in this country. I do think that Michael Buble, Justin Beiber and Drake are all insanely talented musicians.. but really... we have so many other great artists and bands, and it would have been great to see some other people up on that stage.
Also.. awards like Best New Artist were on the live show (Congrats to Drake), yet Best New Group was presented the night before at the Awards Gala (Congrats to the Arkells).
Half way through the awards I ended up getting bored and turning the channel. I turned it back at the end to check out the K'naan and everyone perform Wavin' Flag.
Next year the awards are goin to be in Toronto. I am extremely pumped that I will finally be able to go, but I also hope that the Juno Committe focus more on the overall talent in canada and not just on the artists that will bring in the big ratings.
