Pop Music 101. Aka Marianas Trench in Hamilton!

Marianas Trench is one of my favourite bands, but its only because I think that Josh Ramsay is an amazing lyricist.  When it comes to a good song, it is nothing without the lyrics in my opinion and when it comes to Marianas Trench, its the lyrics that speak to me.   I have seen these guys perform more times then I can count. I have seen them put on fantastic shows, and I have seen shows where I stood there the whole time wondering what Josh was on, because he couldn't hit a high note to save his life.  When they brought the Astoria tour to Hamilton.. this was one of the amazing shows. Josh's voice was on point.. altho the rest of him looked like a hot mess.   The crowd LOVED him though, so I guess he is doing something right?    I guess at the end of the day all that matters was they put on a good show.

I See Colours, When I Hear Your Voice

Is there anything I can say about Andrew Mcmahon that I haven't already posted in my bijillion posts about this man?  Hes my idol, and my musical inspiration. This music takes me to a place that no other artist ever has. I have a whole sleeve of tattoos dedicated to him and words cannot describe how much I love him.   I look forward to seeing him perform at least once a year.   This years show was just as amazing as every other show. There was exploding balloons, showering the crowd with confetti, as well as the parachute in the crowd.   As always Andrew was down in the crowd dancing with all the fans. I just love how real he is. His lyrics are his stories and he leaves all his emotions on the stage every night. He loves his fans, and he shows that so much during his shows, getting right down into the crowd and dancing along with everyone else.   As always, incredible show.   Check out a few of the photos from Andrew at the Danforth Music Hall.

The 1989 World Tour comes to the Rogers Centre !

Taylor Swift is everything and her album 1989 was pretty much every young girls anthem when it came out.  I am not much of a country fan but I have always loved myself some T-Swift, so when this album came out and was more in a pop direction, I was pretty stoked.   Taylor Swift puts on an amazing show. During the stops on the 1989 world tour Taylor was bringing out Special Guests and days leading up to the show everyone was speculating who was going to show up in Toronto.   Taylor didn't disappoint, bringing out country music legend Keith Urban !
The crowd in the skydome was up on their feet the entire show, and Taylor did't stop. From her massive stage, to set changes, costume changes and endless amounts of back up dancers, the 1989 Tour was incredible.  One of the coolest parts of the show is that every single person was provided with a light up bracelet, and each bracelet lit up to the music, turning the whole venue into a light show. Hands down one of the coolest use of lights I have seen at a concert before.
If you have yet to see Miss Taylor in concert, you need to go.

Punkrawk, Rain and Ferris Wheels ! Riotfest 2015

The end of Music Festival Season, marks the end of summer, and RIOTFEST was the perfect end to a crazy summer of music !   When a music festival combines 2 nights of Weezer, Wu-Tang, Rancid and Ontario royality ALEXISONEFIRE, you know you are in for one hell of a weekend.  My weekend started out pretty rough, as it was thunderstorming most of the day. We tried to make it to the festival grounds regardless, but after getting completely soaked myself and my homegirl decided to abort mission and head back to the hotel and get dry and wait for the storm to pass. Made it back to the Festival just intime for Weezer to take the stage for night one of their two nights of performances. I have seen Weezer play so many times, and while they put on a decent show, they do nothing spectacular to wow me.   As always, ALEXISONFIRE killed it and had the crowd going insane the whole set.

Day two brought out the sun, and some amazing performances from Frank Turner, who by the way puts on a beyond incredible performance and had everyone dancing like crazy.  Punk Rock gods RANCID killed it and I ended my weekend, and festival season, with another performance from Weezer.

Overall it was the perfect ending to a killer summer of festivals...

TURF 2015

Toronto Urban Roots Festival, or TURF  held at The Historic Fort York Grounds brings Toronto the best of "indie" music for a weekend to end off summer. This year was my first year attending TURF and I loved it. TURF is very family friendly, and a lot smaller then a lot of weekend festivals. The vibe is super laid back, with stages all over the area, and people sprawled out on the lawn and taking in the Toronto skyline views.  The main draw for this years TURF was Icelandic darlings Of Monster and Men who closed out the first night of the festival.   If you haven't seen these guys play yet, then you need to. They are a perfect festival band, the kind of music you just close your eyes and get lost in.  The sing-a-longs to their biggest hits "Mountain Sounds" and "King and Lionheart" could have been heard up on the highway above and it was a perfect Friday night in September.

Beauty Behind the Madness Release

Abel Tesfaye was an unknown rapper when he first played the Mod Club... now one of the biggest Rappers in the world THE WEEKND came back to the place he got his start, to celebrate the release of his new album Beauty Behind the Madness.   The Weekend can sell out stadiums, so its no surprise that his show at the Mod Club was the hardest ticket in town to get.  A VERY limited amount of tickets were sold for 10$ each and the rest went to contest winners.
I am beyond obsessed so I was so stoked when I managed to score a ticket.  I would have been content just to hear some of the songs off his new album, but everyone in attendance was lucky enough to hear a full set,   It was so awesome to be able to see him perform in such a tiny venue and the crowd and the vibe was unreal.   It was a killer night.

All Bad Things Must Come To an End.

When I found out that the men of Motley Crue would be hanging up their leather and guitars, I was a sad panda. If you know me you know my love of 80s Glam Rock and of my undying love... er..obsession with Nikki Sixx. He is my rock and roll idol. I have been lucky enough to see Motley Crue a few times before and every time I fan girl like nobodies business. I ended up going to the final Toronto Motley Crue show alone, as none of my friends were cool enough to want to join me.  The Motley Men left everything on that Air Canada Centre Stage, the crowd was on their feet the entire time and holy crap was the show incredible. The energy was off the charts.  I could feel the heat from all the fire on the stage, Nikki's Guitar even had flames coming out of it !  The best part of the show was when Tommy Lee rode his Guitar Coaster over the heads of the crowd, as it spun upside down, not missing a beat, to join the rest of the band in the middle of the floor for their final songs.  It makes me sad that Motley Crue has retired, but I am so happy I got to see their Final Toronto Performance
