Brandon Flowers Does the Solo Thing.

Killers Front Man ventures out on his own this time around.
With a Solo Album, Flamingo, Scheduled for release on September 14th, Brandon Flowers played for a small crowd of "Winners" at the MOD Club this past week.

I for one, was SO excited for this, as I have been a fan of the Killers for as long as I can remember. In fact I have friends who tell me that hearing Killers songs remind them of me.. So yah. I have seen the Killers twice in concert and I am fully aware of the insane awesomeness that Brandon Flowers can bring to a stage.. complete with the Gold Makeup and Attitude.

I was underwhelmed this time. I don't know if it was the venue or the crowd or the fact that the sound was off or that I pretty much knew the words to nothing. but I left the show wanting more.
After taking the stage late, Brandon seemed to stumble though his new songs, talking once in a while to introduce and talk about certain songs. To me, it seemed like he wasn't used to being in a small venue and on a small stage. He was dressed in a simple grey shirt, with a vest and jeans... a far cry from the colourful and sparkly suits he is known for, and pretty much just looked awkward on the stage. For someone who I remember to have SO much confidence during a performance, Brandon looked nervous.

You could tell that he was not happy with the sound, gesturing backstage more then a few times to have adjustments made. During a cover of "Bette Davis Eyes" his Mic actually went out completely. I did like a song called "Jilted Lovers and Broken Hearts", which was an upbeat tune that saw the crowd start to get into it.
Brandon ended with a stripped down version of my favourite song "When You Were Young" and as nice as it was to hear the song.. I wish it had of not been acoustic as I felt it took away from the song.

Overall... I Love Brandon Flowers, I think he is fantastic.. I just think he should stick to doing what he does best.. big venues, big outfits and owning the stage.

  1. I saw him in Chicago on Aug 24th and I must say I tend to agree with you, although I wouldn't go as far to say I was "underwhelmed"...I agree that he seemed very nervous and out of his element, most of the issues I took with the show were technical, sound issues and in particular, the poor lighting. A boy that good looking should always have a big bright spotlight on him. In fairness though, I suppose we should try to remember that these were considered "warm up" performances...in other words, these shows were devised to get everyone used to performing together, performing those songs and seeing what needs to be tweeked before going on the big stages together. I have faith that they'll get it together by the time they hit the big venues. Until then, I'll be thankful for that opportunity to have been among the limited few to enjoy him in such an intimate setting. P.S. the audio on your video was MUCH better than mine was! He was drowned out by the audience in mine....Sorry so long winded. Enjoyed your review!
