For its first year at its new home, Festival of Friends moved outside of the City and its home at Gage Park and moved all the way to the outskirts of Ancaster to the Ancaster Fair Grounds for this years Festival. It did have its share of criticism and issues..mostly dealing with Transportation and accessibility. I for one ended up parking pretty far away just to walk 20 minutes rather then be stuck in traffic, because I didn't want to miss Rolling Stones newest cover boys The Sheepdogs. Even as I write this, I am watching the news, and even days after.. the topic of conversation on the news is still the Festival and the insane crowds and issues that happened on Friday Night. Luckily, We made it right to the festival in time for the Sheepdogs. Total down home Rock and Roll, I totally enjoyed them! To me, they remind me of that band from the movie Almost Famous...unknown band gets the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine then becomes huge. They deserve it, and they are awesome guys! Lets hope the success doesn't get in the way of the music.
Up Next was City and Colour. I found it kinda entertaining that Dallas Green had a huge show the day that his former band Alexisonfire announced their breakup. Either way, I am a fan of Dallas and I was pretty disappointing in the performance. I understand that City And Colour is a more soothing and calm band.. but for some reason I found it way to boring.. and I was totally not feeling the set list.
Day two of Festival of Friends was also the Y108 Rock and Roll Picnic. I don't really understand why they put them together, but whatever. Right before The Reason was supposed to go on, it decided to down pour. The guys ended up going on late, but it was better late then never !
Can't wait to see what the festival brings next year!
