I have wanted to go to Chicagos Lollapalooza Music Festival, since... well pretty much since forever. And this past August 3rd- 5th, which also happens to be the weekend of my Birthday, I finally convinced my partner in crime, to drive the 8 hour drive from Hamilton to Chicago so I could finally attend LOLLAPALOOZA.
This years headliners included The Black Keys, Black Sabbath, The Red Hot Chillipeppers, Avicii, Jack White and Florence and The Machine.. among a ton of others. I have been to many festivals in Canada, but man, Chicago knows how to throw a music festival. In the middle of downtown Chicago, on the water, surrounded by huge buildings, it was the perfect backdrop to dance under the stars with 100 Thousand other people.
The three day music festival went off ALMOST perfectly, except on the Saturday afternoon, when the storm of all storms decided to decend on Chicago, which forced organizers to shut down the festival and evucate the thousands of concert goers onto the Chicago Streets. Luckily, the storm subsided and everyone made their way back into Grant Park, just intime for FUN and Franz Ferdinand. Personally, these two performances were some of the highlights of the Festival for myself and honeslty, man do Franz Ferdinand know how to put on an AMAZING SHOW. Other highlights of the three day festival for myself incudled Canadians Metric, and of course, the insanely talented Florence and The Machine. Personally, Florence may have hands down stole the show out from every other act of the weekend, the energy she brought to the stage was unlike any artist I have seen in my life. She was beyond Fantastic.
The weather was hot, the music was loud, the food and drinks were plentiful and Lollapalooza was amazing. I cannot wait until my next long weekend in Chicago and my next Lollapalooza... which hopefully be next summer !!! till then... .check out some photos from that weekend! !
