Fanfest was one of my favourite events at Canadian Music Week last year, and I went this year with high expectations. In the previous years, it was held at the MTV Building, and was complete with open bars and amazing catered finger foods. This year I must say I was disappointed. Having a media pass only entitled us to being on the balcony, which while nice, is set very far back from the stage, and has seating, making it very hard for photos as well as getting into the music and feeling a part of the event. To me, it felt like any other show at the Music Hall, complete with the over priced drinks. While I enjoyed the performances as I knew I would, I ended up leaving Fanfest disappointed. I hope that next year they find a new venue so the press and guests don't feel so far removed from the action, or at least allow them to go down onto the floor to enjoy the music with the fans, and bring back the elements that made the winners feel pampered and special. Those were the things that made FANFEST about the fans, and not just another concert.
