Rihanna brought her "Diamonds" World tour to The Air Canada Centre on March 18th for the 1st of two sold out shows. I for one, was super pumped to see her again. I saw her back on her last tour and I was blown away by her live show and I was interested to see if she could top it with this tour. In a word, she Disappointed. I LOVE Rihanna as a musician. I think the girl has got some serious skills. I will say that prior to the two shows in Toronto the girl had cancelled a few shows due to being sick, so I will cut her some slack on that, because it was clear throughout the show in Toronto that she was struggling to hit her notes and relying highly on her backtrack and the audience to sing while she danced her hot butt off. It wasn't until about halfway through the show that I finally started to hear more of her actual voice and less of her backtrack. When it came to the big ballads, such as her medley of "Love the Way You Lie"/"Take a Bow" and Cold Case Love, the girl OWNED it. Standing alone in a gorgeous red dress with a slit up her leg, she belted out those tunes like her life depended on it. My favouvite part of the show was when she came out in a short uber sparkly dress and high tops and basically turned the ACC into a dance club. Starting with her super hit "We Found Love", and then going into a medley of "S&M"/"Only Girl (In the world) and Don't Stop the Music", Rihanna ran through the crowd, danced her butt off and it was the moment in the show that I could tell that she was seriously enjoying herself. Rihanna is known as a woman who has pushed the boundaries of sexy-ness, she has a no care attitude and does what she wants. Seeing her onstage I was reminded that she is really just a young woman, and listening to her lyrics of her songs, makes you realize that she is confused, she just wants to be loved and that she has her struggles just like the rest of us in this world. Her voice may have not been in top condition that night in Toronto, But there is no denying that Rihanna is a performer, and she totally brought it and left it all on the stage.
