For the second year in a row, I roadtripped it down to the beautiful city of Chicago for what was not only my Birthday weekend, but also LOLLAPALOOZA ! This years lineup was STACKED and I was so pumped ! The weather was beautiful, the outfits were insane and I legit had one of the best weekends of my life. I got to see some of my fave bands, as well as fall in love with some new artists
Heres a recap of day one of Lolla 2013
EMELI SANDE
I had only briefly heard of this talented lady though my boyfriend who had spent a week playing her hit song "Next to You" pretty much every two seconds. She was one of the first performers of the day on the main stage, and as soon as I got close, I could hear the epic-ness of this woman voice. Emeli had drawn a pretty large crowd for such an early set, and it was evident as to why. She was so fantastic. I LOVED her voice and her performance and I totally became a fan after her performance.
ICONA POP
When I found out these two chicks from Sweden would be playing at this years Lolla, saying I was excited was an understatement ! I have had their song "I Love It" pretty much on repeat since it came out and it was hands down one of my top songs this year. I was interested to see if the rest of their songs would be as catchy as their single. And they were !! The crowd was so into their performance and you could tell that the girls were having a blast on the stage ! Their songs were upbeat and had everyone dancing. The one thing I will never forget about this performance was that right when they started to play "I Love It" it started to pour rain. It was just the perfect music festival moment and one I will never forget.
IMAGINE DRAGONS
Imagine Dragons have pretty much exploded onto the music scene this year, and are actually incredible. I was so confused as to why they were not on the main stage during Lolla, and because of this, I feel like their performance suffered greatly. The crowd was WAY to packed into the space, for the number of people who wanted to see them perform, to the point it was hard to breathe, even being very far away. There was also issues with the sound, making it very very hard to hear the bands performance, and the sound even cut totally out during it, which made a lot of people very upset. Overall, as much as I love Imagine Dragons, I was very disappointed and I cannot wait to see them when they are in Toronto in the winter so I can see them and enjoy them properly. I also hope that Lolla has them back so they can play on the main stage and blow everybody away like they are meant to do.
QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE
People have been waiting for QOTSA to come back for what seems like ever, and this year they graced the stage at Lollapalooza to the delight of many rock music fans. I personally am not the biggest fan of theirs but I do like some of their older songs, so I made my way over to check them out. There is no doubt that these dudes are a solid rock band. Their lyrics are great and they are super tight. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed their performance, but I also think that has to do with the perfect backdrop with the sun setting over the Chicago skyline while QOTSA played.
THE KILLERS
The Killers have been one of my fave bands for pretty much ever, I have listened to them since High School and their live shows are always always amazing. Frontman Brandon Flowers is so fantastic at putting on a show and he is a true performer in every sense of the word. There isn't much I can say about this performance other then I loved it Loved It Loved It SO MUCH !!! The best part was when they did this amazing rendition of the Broadway classic Chicago with backdrops of the city. It was a perfect night, and that moment actually give me chills. Overall The Killers was probably my fave show of everyone that weekend and I cannot wait to see the perform once again !
