California Dreams brings colour and candy to the ACC

Katy Perry played her second show in a row at the Air Canada Centre last Thursday to a sold out crowd. I have seen Katy once before, a few years ago, at a stop on the Vans Warped Tour and I will be the first to tell you that I was less then impressed with her live vocal ability. Its been a few years, record breaking albums and many different hair styles, and I am happy to say that Katy Perry totally blew me away this time around.
This Tour, The California Dreams Tour, is in support of her Latest Album that is currently breaking records for Number One singles.  Opening with a Alice In Wonderland type of video which was played throughout the two hour concert, Katy came up in the middle of a candy-adorned stage with her black hair and sparkly candy-themed outfit. Katy didn't stay in one colourful outfit long, changing outfits an upwards of 15 times !!!! throughout her set. There were no shortage of hits, including a slowed down version of "I Kissed A Girl" and others such as "E.T", "Last Friday Night" and "Peacock"

Katy Perry is adorable, she is outgoing, energetic and she knows how to have a blast onstage. She appreciates her fans and that is evident while she is onstage. She was constantly reaching down and touching hands, and near the end of the show she actually brought about 20 of her fans onstage to dance with her AND took the time to take photos with some lucky fans! Katy has up her vocal ability a ton since I last saw her play and she proved that when she came out to the end of the catwalk with a few of her band and did a part of her show that she refers to as "Katy Karaoke" performing acoustically covers of popular songs, including some Beyonce, Jay-Z, and even a cover of the Rebecca Black Viral hit "Friday".

The highlight of the show for me was when Katy sat on a swing, high above the stage, and sang her ballad " Not Like The Movies". I am a sucker for songs like this. The song sings about love, and how love is supposed to be. Katy's voice was flawless and behind her, videos of famous cartoon couples played on the screens.

Katy also tried to make all of her fans feel close to her by flying over the crowd, suspended from the roof off the ACC on a cotton candy could. Performing close to the back of the venue, with nothing but her sparkly pink guitar, a stunning version of her song "Thinking Of You" while talking to her fans.

As expected the show ended with "California Girls", in which the stage was full of dancers, and even dancing gingerbread men. Katy took the time to spray the crowd with huge whip cream guns, before throwing sparkles and candy into the crowd and ended with a burst of pink heart shaped confetti! Katy Perry is one of those artists that may not be the best singer or the best dancer, but she knows how to have fun and she doesn't take her fans or her success for granted. The California Dreams Tour is a tour not to be missed!
