Pianos and Lullaby's and Jacks Mannequin

For me there is nothing better then being able to see your favourite singer/song writer, sing your favourite songs in a small venue. Last night I got to do just that when Andrew McMahon and his band Jacks Mannequin perform at some random bar in Kitchener. If you have never heard of Andrew or either of his bands (Jacks Mannequin/Something Corporate), then you are seriously missing out.

A insanely amazing mix of Piano playing, Rock Music, Passion and Poetry, The music of Jacks Mannequin comes from a more deep and personal side of Andrew. He started writing the words of an album that would eventually be released as "Everything In Transit" back while he was still playing as Something Corporate. In 2005 Andrew was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. I remember I was doing my radio show that day when I read about it online. My heart stopped. I am beyond thankful that Andrew survived and continued to make the most amazing music.

Andrew performs with a passion that I have never seen before from any other artist. I have seen him perform more times that I can count, in both Jacks Mannequin and Something Corporate. The way he sits behind that piano and hammers the keys and smiles and you can just tell that he enjoys every second he is on that stage and he can look into the crowd and see every single person singing the words. I can honestly not put into words the effect that Andrew and his music has had on my life. His music tells stories, stories about life, stories about overcoming obstacles and stories about enjoying every moment.

I am SO Lucky to have been able to meet Andrew on several occasions, and I don't know if I will ever be able to get out the words to tell him how much his music means to me or how much it has had such an impact on my life. As long as Andrew keeps making music, I can assure you I will be there, at every show.

If you want to know more about Andrew McMahon and Jacks Mannequin, I suggest you watch his documentary DEAR JACK. It was filmed during the time Andrew was in the hospital, and it it hands down one of the most inspiring things I have ever watched in my life.  Also check out songs "Swim", "The Resolution" and "Hammers and Strings". Hopefully one day I will be able to sit down and interview Andrew, and let him know how much his music means to me.
